The Do’s and Don’ts of Waxing

Beautician Waxing A Woman's Leg Applying A Strip Of Material Over The Hot Wax To Remove The Hairs When Pulled

It’s no secret that waxing presents a sleek, sexy alternative to shaving and other means of hair removal. Fans of this service rave about smooth skin, fewer removal sessions over time and head-turning confidence – especially in the summertime. Gearing up for swimsuit season? Tired of the hassle that comes along with dull razors, nicks and stubble? Then waxing is the answer for you!

Consider these do’s and don’ts before you book your first waxing appointment:

DO take an over-the-counter pain reliever 30 minutes prior. Hoping for an “ouchless” experience? Feel free to take an aspirin shortly before your waxing session to minimize pain.

DON’T wear tight clothes, spend too much time in the sun, or use scented lotions/moisturizers post-wax. First-time waxing clients, in particular, may experience some tingling and irritation. Direct sun exposure and form-fitting clothing, as well as the chemical make-up of some fragrances or alcohol-containing lotions may contribute to this discomfort. Steer clear of these things for up to two days following a waxing for optimal comfort.

DO make sure the hair is long enough. Waxing is most effective when hair is at least ¼ inch in length. At this length, waxing specialists can be sure that they’re removing hair from the root as opposed to tugging on longer strands and causing discomfort.

DON’T moisturize up to 24 hours before your wax. In addition to monitoring hair length, ensure that you avoid moisturizing products before your session. Waxing’s potential is increased when the skin is clean and dry.
